Mirshko Betna was born to Anija and Arrbi Betna in 879 ABY, roughly six years prior to the events of the Great Disappearance. Across the galaxy, people vanished in a single day. Perhaps it was due to this, or the fact that she was their only child that prompted them to keep her close to home. She spent her early years being trained by her father, her mother and various other members of Betna.
In 886 ABY, the Mandalorian Clans focused their attention on Dromund Kaas. One of the traditionally Sith-held worlds, the Mandalorians attacked the One Sith Empire. During the attack, Arrbi and Anija faced off against the Dark Lord himself. What neither of them knew was that the encounter had been orchestrated as an attempt to remove both of them and replace Anija as Mand’alor. At the same time, the One Sith Empire struck towards the heart of Mandalorian space.
With the bulk of the Mandalorian forces focused on Dromund Kaas, this left Mandalore woefully undefended. The Mandalorian attack caused the One Sith to crumble. During the battle, a powerful Sith sorcerer named Darth Vyrassu attacked Arrbi and Anija. A’den Kyr'am helped defend Anija and Arrbi, but Arrbi received a non -lethal incapacitating strike to his chest. Anija was killed by Vyrassu himself due to him feeling she was responsible for the attack, whether she actually ordered it or not. During this time, Mirshko and other young Mandalorians were moved to Dxun for their safety. They were housed at the Kyr’am Compound and outlying settlements. Mirshko was far too young to have been involved in the conflict. As a result of this, she did not learn about her parents’ deaths until much later.
The next several years saw her moved around from settlement to settlement on Dxun. In 887 ABY, the Mandalorian Clans were dissolved and reformed into the Mandalorian Empire. This group of Mandalorians bordered on fanatical. And in many ways, they were quite similar to the Kyr’tsad and the Neo-Crusaders regarding Force Users. This was further complicated by the fact that she had begun to show a degree of ability with the Force. It was inevitable, given Anija’s own inherent ability and skill. As a result of this, A’den resorted to employing ysalamiri any time Mirshko interacted with the rest of Clan Kyr’am. This was due to several reasons. The first and foremost being that he himself, and the majority of Kyr’am had deep-rooted hate for Force users. A’den himself had a track record of several kills which included Jedi and other Force Users. The one main thing which stayed A’den’s hand was the fact of his secret love for Anija…. And the fact he’d watched her daughter grow up following Anija’s death.
In the following years, Mirshko found her time consumed with training, sparring, and various missions. She spent countless hours trying to track down any sign of her parents, or other members of Betna, but all ended in failure. From what little she could find, it appeared that almost all of Clan Betna had been wiped out during the attack on Mandalore.
She spent the next several years trying to track down any news of her parents or other clan members. It was this search which led her to the ruined Betna homestead where she found Anija’s Bes’uliik. Not only that, but she was also able to recover blueprints and journals belonging to both her parents, along with some other personal and family items. In 889 ABY, the Mandalorian Empire was ousted from power, allowing more traditionally minded Mandalorians to rise to power. In many ways, it was a step forward for the Mandalorian people. The Mandalorian Clans reformed under the guidance of several Warmasters, including A’den Ky’ram.
The following year, the Devastator Wars swept across the galaxy. Mirshko spent the majority of the next five years off training her Force abilities, as well as her other skills with various teachers across the galaxy. Draco Vereen and Xander Carrick, among others. She also assisted in several campaigns which greatly expanded the Mandalorian borders. During one such campaign, Mirshko snuck aboard a transport which was returning to a corvette which pirates had taken control of. She managed to elude them for hours once onboard but was eventually captured when they discovered her. An entire year passed while she remained their captive. Their leader discovered her ability with the Force, and that it was still raw and untrained. He used this fact to manipulate her. His own ability with the Force allowed him to dominate her mind and bend her to his whims. He filled her days with training so intense it drove her to exhaustion, and yet he pampered her. The dichotomy of it further destabilized her, making her easier to manipulate. It took almost that entire year for Mirshko to slowly dig herself out from beneath the shadow of his control.
Her escape was carefully planned, and execute with the unexpected but welcome aid of the daughter of one of her mother’s closest friends. She returned to Mandalore once more in search of more clues regarding her parents. She had hoped they'd survived the war, but what little information she had was leading her to believe that the opposite was true. Granted, it was mostly whispered rumors. It was these very rumors which led Mirshko on another search of Mandalorian space. She traveled to various planets which she knew had held settlements of various branches of Betna, but she found nothing but remnants of homesteads and more dead ends. She was beginning to lose hope. As she continued her search, she found herself prompted to search her mother’s journals. Among multitudes of blueprints and technical readouts for varuious pieces of Mandalorian technology, she found an extensive collection of journal entries.
It was here that she first found mention of A’den Kyr’am. From what she was able to piece together, he had been one of her most trusted officers during her time as Mand’alor. Which… was more than could be said for most. Anija wrote sparingly of such, but Mirshko was still able to piece together that there had been quite a few attempts to take her life. This concerned her a great deal, and she began to wonder if perhaps that was what had occurred so many years ago. Yes, Years. She’d spent more than half her life trying to track down any information concerning her parents. And between the failing Mandalorian Clans at the time and the burgeoning Mandalorian Empire, both had seemed content to wipe any mention of her mother from the public histories. Which had made it all the more difficult to find any possible leads. And of all the places it had led her….. To Kyrayc.
