SPECIAL FEATURES
- Allows for a small craft to slip through planetary-grade or capital ship shielding.
- Works in conjunction with installed stealth and shield technology. See Strengths and Weaknesses for more detail.
Strengths:
(+) When activated, the Du'us'ara allows a small craft (30m wide/tall or less due to constraints of field disruption magnitude, 40m long or less due to duration of effect) to fly through planetary-grade shielding or the shields of a capital ship. The Du'us'ara is capable of acting against ray shields, particle shields, the ray and particle components of standard deflector shields, Gungan hydrostatic fields, Kerz-Bhrg fields, etc. The vessels experience turbulence proportional to relative mass and relative velocity.
(+) This capability can be sacrificed to let the field disruptor serve as a redundant shield generator. However, if the respective layer of shields is depleted beyond 65% strength, the field disruptor will be unable to serve its intended function reliably without a tuneup and significant recharge time.
Weaknesses:
(-) Due to the power required to pass through shields of this grade, the Du'us'ara will burn out any active stealth systems operational on the incursive vessel at the moment of contact, requiring extensive repair. Stygium crystals have been known to fracture as a result. To avoid this hazard, active stealth systems must be deactivated for at least five seconds before the moment of shield-to-shield contact, or damage to the stealth systems will result.
(-) The Du'us'ara must replace normal ray and particle shield function for at least five seconds prior to contact, leaving the vessel vulnerable. If contact is made before the five second mark, a shield feedback event may damage the field disruptor or either ship's shields, and/or throw the ships apart with some risk of hull damage.
(-) Passing through the shield is a visible and (if in atmosphere) audible event, reported as a loud crackle or thunderclap. Shield generator stations briefly detect an anomaly comparable to a turbolaser impact.
In short, for five seconds before the ship passes through the shield, it is both de-stealthed (if stealth technology is involved) and unshielded, and the moment of impact is relatively obvious, though it may be misidentified.
DESCRIPTION
The Du'us'ara field disruptor module is rare, expensive, and exclusive, a proprietary Mandal Motors innovation. It is designed for high-velocity commando insertions in shields with excellent structural integrity. Unsurprisingly, it works best with Koensayr small craft. On a starfighter or small transport, it is normally installed in tandem with existing shield generators, increasing their bulk and slightly altering their silhouette. It is designed to fasten onto the vessel externally and without significant modification, and comes with a variety of clamps and adapters for that purpose. For greater safety and reliability, the manufacturer recommends modifying the vessel to include the Peregrine module permanently.
The Du'us'ara is a slightly scaled-up version of the Evasive-13 and Evasive-226-R field disruptors, which allow personnel to walk through military-facility-grade energy shields. In the modern era, it is an adaptation of this drop pod technology.
