The clans of Dathomir were formed many centuries ago by a Jedi. Given rules, given teachings, which soon formed into magick, rather then the force. Even harnessing the abilities of their world itself. In time there would also come Zabrak men, who were controlled by the witches and night-sisters of the world. Even having rituals specifically for that purpose. Nevertheless, they were quite skilled warriors due to their nature. Both often referred to as the Nightsisters and the Nightbrothers.
The world was almost exclusively ruled by the various clans of the witches. Until recently.
Under the leadership of Zenon, the Avatar of Fire, the men and women of Dathomir began to order themselves to follow an Overlord. And soon calling themselves the Dathomir Collective, making up a fairly significant portion of the world and being the vast majority of it's members. They became it's official government. Though they are far from caught up in technology, but they have considerable skill, and rather unique abilities within the force on their world, and have even begun droid manufacturing as a product. They still command their own clans, but now they serve greater goals, and work in unison in war.
Dathomirian Witchcraft is arguably one of the more powerful lifestyles in the force, with many unique belief's and methods, and even having the seemingly unreplicatable Talismans, allowing those who were fortunate enough to gain them the ability to transform their very body into an animal at will almost.
