The Galactic Map serves as a guide for each Faction's territory within the galaxy. You gain territory according to your "In character" faction reputation increasing, and you have enough active members. Outside of the three starting factions (Sith Empire, Jedi Order, Mandalorian Clans), you'll need a minimum of 10 active members to claim an influence on the map of more than 1 planet.
